The word "Sodomy" is still widely misused to describe homosexual activity. This is a summary of information on the history, Bible texts and the actual sins of Sodom and Gomorrah.
The Reason Behind the Misunderstanding
The description of uncontrolled sexual activities of the ancient Greek by Philo (Jewish Philosopher). In his article On Abraham, paragraph 133-136. Philo explicitly describe a sexual intercourse between men. However, his description is a violent relationship, not a loving one.

Other Translated Scriptures Misuse "Sodomites"
In the King James Version Bible: For further investigation, use Biblehub Interlinear Tool for each verse. Click on the word "qades" to discover the real meaning of the Hebrew word, which is not "Sodomite".
The use of "Sodomites" for the original Hebrew word "קָדֵ֖שׁ" (Qadesh), violating the fact that Qadesh is known as temple prostitutes in those time. Further reading: Britannica
